Crete

Our excursion on Crete took us to the Palace at Knossos. I enjoyed myself walking around the ruins and looking at what was left of days gone by. Bruce, my honey, chased our lovable little 2 year old around (again) so I could soak in the history.

The paintings were original, but most of the structures there are "restorations" of what the original archaeologist thought they looked like. His writings on the dig site were subject to his own interpretations, which were very ambiguous at best. Still neat though. What I really wanted to see though, were the artifacts taken from the dig site.

Here at the Archaeological Museum, I was disappointed again. The main parts of the museum were under renovation, so as a token they kept one exhibit open on the backside of the building, I guess to appease patrons. It was neat to see the history, but it was very short lived. One day maybe, I will make it back to see the whole museum!

We meandered through town, stopping to shop along the way. I bought a table runner and bread basket with the olive motif of Greece, and I was very excited to find a necklace and earring set made from coral. I love finding functional souvenirs!

Upon returning to our room on board, we discovered a neatly folded dog on our bed. Lincoln got to it first though before we did. It was cute seeing him try to put it back together.

Fortunately for us, our stateroom attendant was very nice. He refolded it and added an elephant to keep him company.

Gideon was kind enough to bring them another friend: a mouse folded by our lovely waiters up in the cafe at dinner time.
