Fun in the Sun

This week, the weather has been gorgeous.  I caught spring fever and headed out of doors to make our home more beautiful.  My goal was to get all my daffodil and paper white bulbs planted.  The only problem was, I had no where to plant them!  We have this great front yard,  and only a bunch of rocks instead of planting beds.  So, I did the only thing that I could:  I made one.  I had to rake up the rocks, peel back the tarp and cut it, lay down my board to divide the bed from the rocks, and mix in 4 bags of potting soil to have any hope of the bulbs growing.  We have clay soil, so I hope the potting soil and the bone meal do their job!  I have big plans of putting a few bushes and some ground cover in all that blank space. Now, I just have to make another bed on the other side of the door!

Project #2 was to transplant our aspen trees.  We had four aspen trees on one side of the door, and nothing on the other side.  We have another "Ed ism." Our family spent Saturday morning scraping rocks, cutting back the tarps, digging holes, moving trees, and filling in the holes again and covering them with rocks.  It took about 4 hours from start to finish and we are amazed every time we walk through the front door that a little change can make a big difference.  We hope the aspens survived their journey!  Chances are good since they made it through our first summer of neglect, stayed alive through the winter, and didn't have any run-ins with deer.  Here's hoping!
