It was so important to Gideon to get a picture of the little flowers growing on the hillside that we saw on the carriage ride up to the castle. You have to look really closely.

Lincoln managed to fall asleep during the short hike from the carriage to the castle entrance. Good job Lincoln! He slept for the whole tour, but John's back was aching by the end!

Royalty sure do know how to pick the real estate! The view is amazing!

After our night in Garmisch, we got up and drove to the castles. The Hohenschwangau Castle is the castle that King Ludwig grew up in. The Neuschwanstein Castle is the one that he had built, though never completed. It took four years just to do the wood carving in his bedroom! This guy was ornate. The castle got natural water pressure from a nearby spring, so there was running water and even flushing potties.

During the Hohenschwangau Castle tour, you are brought to a room with some really old bread behind glass. It was a gift to the king and it was preserved. Lincoln was getting hungry because it was around lunchtime and as soon as he saw it, he lit up and yelled "CAKE!" Our lunch was brautwurst and pretzels, much tastier than 100 year old stale bread.

The carriage ride was a hit with all the kids. It is quite a hike up the hill to the top and it preserved all the adults' sanity. Very well worth the price.
