Life after vacation

As soon as we returned home, work continued in earnest to prepare our soil for installation of our irrigation system and planting of our grass seed.  Bruce spent many hours behind the tiller as we tilled up rocks that just seemed to appear out of no where.

As Bruce was moving some bigger rocks and spreading composted manure around, he met with an untimely accident.

Thankfully, we know some people with pretty big equipment. And thankfully, Bruce walked away from the accident unscathed.

John was the hero of the day so work could continue!

In other areas of our life, the Grand Valley Days Parade was approaching, so we had to get going on the float that would be entered by H-Dentistry.  Do you have any idea what it will be?

You guessed it!  One big molar on wheels.

Here is the whole crew ready and prepared to pass out candy and walk the parade route twice because the parade is so short!

As part of the festivities of the day, the police department had a bicycle derby.  Each participant could enter to win a brand new bike.  Lincoln was the lucky ducky in his age group.

In the meantime, the tiller quit working.  Bruce studied diagrams online and asked advice of those he thought would know better than him.  He took countless pictures to help him remember how to put everything back together again and spent many hours in the garage.  This is the moment of truth as he tried to start it up again.  I am proud to report, that his efforts were very successful!

Here is a wonderful parenting moment.  Our son chose not to finish his breakfast one morning, so we promptly put it in the fridge and pulled it out for lunch that same day.  It doesn't even resemble its original origin.  Gideon, the brave soul did get through it.

During our many travels, the weeds had ample opportunity to grow out of control.  This weed is Russian thistle, commonly known as tumbleweed.  I didn't realize that Russian thistle was its original name until a google search one day.

That would explain why both Allen and I had to take allergy medication every night we spent pulling the darn things.  We had our allergies tested this summer and Russian thistle is very high for both of us.

When one does not have grass to play in, the next best thing is mud!  The boys have enjoyed making mud balls and throwing them at each other while they were supposed to be working.
